Iceland

Duration: 5 days

There are few locations in the world truly as unique as Iceland. This Nordic island offers views of awe-inspiring volcanoes, volatile geysers and iconic hot springs, all of which seem like some sort of fantasy. We’ll take you to see some of the most revered tourist spots in the world – the stunning waters of the Blue Lagoon, the building-high spray of the Strokkur geyser, and the curious black sand beach of Reynisfjara, to make sure you have plenty of stories to tell and pictures to share when you return home. To top it all off, watch the other-worldly northern lights during the evenings and be thankful that you chose Iceland as your destination. This special island really is filled with beauty and inspiration, and is certainly a place for the bucket list. Come with us, tick it off and treasure this unforgettable experience.

Itinerary

  • We’ll get you stuck in straight away by whisking you off the the Blue Lagoon, one of Iceland’s most popular attractions
  • Feel free to relax and rinse off any stress with a dip in the natural geothermal pool, famed for its minerals and healing properties. An indoor pool and geothermal sauna are also on site.
  • Once you’ve soaked your troubles away, we’ll head on a short drive to Reykjavík, the northernmost Capital city in the world where you’ll be staying for the duration of the trip.
  • Once again, we’ll get stuck straight in by heading to Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park. Stroll around the country’s most sacred site and home of the oldest existing national parliament in the world, the Alþingi.
  • Thingvellir is a place of fascinating natural beauty; a spectacular geological vista, set on a vast plain flanked by large fissures right by Iceland’s largest lake, Thingvallavatn, where you can clearly see the mid-Atlantic rift that makes iceland so unique
  • Next, we drive to the mighty waterfall of Gullfoss – the Golden falls – perhaps the most beautiful in the country, where the glacial river of Hvítá tumbles 32 meters in a double cascade.
  • We’ll also check out the active geysers Geysir and Strokkur – the latter erupting hot water and steam to a height of 25 metres every 5-7 minutes.
  • To finish off we’ll head on a scenic drive to Skálholt, an ancient bishopric, and for centuries the spiritual and educational heart of Iceland, before settling down for some well-deserved rest.
  • The city centre of Reykjavík is a maze of narrow alleys framed with old timber houses from late 19th to early 20th centuries punctuated with more recent buildings. You’ll be able to learn about its origins as the oldest settlement in Iceland right up to its modern history on our professional walking tour.
  • You’ll have the chance to explore the church of Hallgrímskirkja, the Nordic House (Nordic cultural centre) and the National Museum while you’re here. There is also the Lutheran Cathedral and monuments to Jón Sigurðsson (19th century Independence hero).
  • On the final day, we’ll drive first over a lava plateau and then into the southern lowlands of Iceland. The route passes through some of the prettiest countrysides in Iceland with fields, farms and villages towards the Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers in South Iceland.
  • We reach Seljalandsfoss, a graceful ribbon-like waterfall which drops from an overhanging lava cliff that is possible to walk behind, but do not expect to stay dry!
  • After a lunch break, we’ll spend some time on the volcanic black sand beach of Reynisfjara, with many interesting caves and impressive rock formations including columnar basalt. There are some stunning views so make sure you bring your camera!
  • If your group would like, we’ll organise a special meal to celebrate your final night on the island.
  • Time to say goodbye and head to Keflavík Airport in time for your flight home, with memories that will last a lifetime.
