About UniLife

We started on a students' union committee

UniLife has run trips for university societies and sports clubs since 2018. Most of how we work comes from having been the student organising the trip.

Our story

From the Activities Office to 100 trips a year

UniLife started in Nottingham in 2018. Before it was a business, I was on a hall committee, then ran Nottingham's Freshers Week, then got elected Activities Officer at the University of Nottingham Students' Union.

In that job I watched committees try to run trips on top of a degree. The destination was rarely the hard part. The hard part was one or two students chasing forty people for deposits, running the money through a society account and signing contracts with suppliers, often without realising how much responsibility they'd taken on.

So we built UniLife around taking that off them. We're the tour operator, every traveller books and pays us directly, and the committee gets to go on the trip they organised rather than run it.

“Uni of Sheffield History Society trip to Krakow was an absolute blast. James Glass and Ben Alliston were organised, composed and fun. They knew how to have a good time but at the same time, look after the group and make sure everyone was involved.”

“Tara has been fantastic throughout the entire booking process and so accommodating to what we wanted from the trip, ensuring we had explored all options before confirming a location and dates.”

“Ed was very helpful organising the tour and tailoring it to our requests, the boat party was especially a highlight. A special mention to our Unilife leaders Maia and Amelie who were absolutely incredible.”

For students' unions

Who's the organiser when a society goes abroad?

When a society runs a trip abroad itself, the question of who the package organiser is gets complicated quickly.

Exemptions to Package Travel and ATOL regulations are complex. Student Unions risk breaching these regulations if they do not take steps to comply, with significant potential consequences.

When a trip is booked with us, we're the organiser. Every traveller has their own contract with us and the money is protected. We supply the risk assessment and the documents your activities team asks for, and each partner union gets its own page at unilifeuk.com/su/ listing the trips on sale to its students.

We work with unions including Coventry, Southampton, Leicester, Portsmouth and Bournemouth, with several more looking to join us. If you're at a union and want to talk about how that works, I'd love to chat.

Work with us

Most of our trip leaders were on a UniLife trip first

They travel with the group, are paid for each trip, and are the first person a student goes to when something needs sorting. If that sounds like you, or you're in a sports club and want to be our ambassador, these are open now.

Nothing that fits? Email contact@unilifeuk.com with what you'd want to do.
