Say ‘adios’ to home and ‘hola!’ to one of the most picturesque and beautiful capitals in Europe. The stunning architecture round every corner is enough to take over your camera roll, with awesome backgrounds for the perfect picture such as the Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace and The Gran Vía. Madrid also boasts one of the best art museums in the world: The Prado, which is a must-see, whether you have an interest in art or not.

Make sure you try some tapas and delicious churros at the Mercado San Miguel, or the many other tapas bars dotted around the city. Finish off your perfect day with a night out at a traditional wine bar, or start the next morning in the 7-storey Teatro Kapital. There is honestly more to experience in Madrid than can be squeezed into a single weekend, but we’ll help you do as much as possible!

Itinerary

Please note, this is a sample itinerary. No activities are included unless specified in the ‘What’s Included’ section.

  • You’ll meet with your UniLife Trip Leaders at your chosen pick-up destination and head to the airport to catch your flight!
  • Once landed in Spain, proceed through passport control and hop on your airport transfers to the accommodation.
  • Our Trip Leaders will get you checked in and settled so you can make the most of your first evening in Madrid. We have plenty of recommendations from our many trips here, which we’ll share on the group chat so you can start getting to know the city!

A day of free time to explore the city how you like! Here are some recommendations:

  • isit the Royal Palace of Madrid (Palacio Real) and take a guided tour of this opulent royal residence.
  • Lunch at a local tapas bar or restaurant.
  • Explore the historic district of La Latina, known for its winding streets, traditional taverns, and lively atmosphere.
  • Spend the evening at your nightlife activity, partying ‘til dawn to reggaeton like a local!

In the evening meet your Trip Leaders for an Bar Crawl visiting Madrid’s hotspots!

Here are some things we recommend to do with your free time:

  • Visit world-class museums, such as the Prado Museum or the Reina Sofia Museum, to admire masterpieces by Spanish and international artists.
  • Stroll through El Retiro Park, a vast green oasis in the heart of Madrid, and visit the Crystal Palace.
  • Take a leisurely walk around the historic center, possibly heading towards Puerta del Sol or Plaza Mayor.
  • Our friendly Trip Leaders can organise some kind of evening activity if you haven’t included any optional extras in your itinerary. Feel free to give them suggestions!
  • We’ll check out of the hostel and put your bags in luggage storage.
  • You’ll have a final chance to explore and see any sights you might have missed!
  • After meeting back at the hostel, you’ll hop on your transfers back to the airport and board your flight back the UK.
  • Once back, we’ll proceed through to the arrivals area, making the end of the trip. Until next time!
