A favourite of the UniLife team, Lisbon is a hidden gem of European travel, and perfect for students. The magnificent Belem Monastery, charming hilltop Castle and stunning day trip to Sintra are all highlights for visitors, and the rustic local food options are to die for, including some of the best seafood in Europe and the world famous ‘Pasteis de Belem’ – we highly recommend! 

The best part about Lisbon however, is the nighttime. This calm little city turns into the best advert for the European lifestyle, with hundreds of tiny bars popping up on street corners where people drink, socialise and relax, and some of the cheapest drink prices in any European capital. Start your night late and chilled, before heading to Bairro Alto to party until the early hours of the morning – this truly is one of the most underrated cities in Europe!

Itinerary

Please note, this is a sample itinerary. No activities are included unless specified in the ‘What’s Included’ section.

  • You’ll meet with your UniLife Trip Leaders at your chosen pick-up destination and head to the airport to catch your flight!
  • Once landed in Lisbon, proceed through passport control and hop on your airport transfers to the accommodation.
  • Our Trip Leaders will get you checked in and settled so you can make the most of your first evening in Lisbon. We have plenty of recommendations from our many trips here, which we’ll share on the group chat so you can start getting to know the city!

A day of free time to explore the city how you like! Here are some recommendations:

  • Discover the lay of the land with a private walking tour of the city, with the need-to-know History of the city and the best local food and drink recommendations.
  • Spend the afternoon relaxing or visiting the sights – this is a good time to visit the sophisticated Cascais area – an hour’s train away from the city with fantastic food and drink options available.
  • Our Trip Leaders will show you a taste of the nightlife, or a visit to 2 of Lisbon’s best clubs: K Urban Beach,  or Lust in Rio.

In the evening meet your Trip Leaders for an Bar Crawl visiting Lisbon’s hotspots!

Here are some things we recommend to do with your free time:

  • If you fancy something different, we recommend a day trip to Sintra: a beautiful hilltop castle with its own microclimate and spectacular views of the surrounding region. 
  • Join us in the evening with a special bar crawl, taking you round the coolest bars and best drinking spots in the city!
  • We’ll check out of the hostel and put your bags in luggage storage.
  • You’ll have a final chance to explore and see any sights you might have missed!
  • After meeting back at the hostel, you’ll hop on your transfers back to the airport and board your flight back the UK.
  • Once back, we’ll proceed through to the arrivals area, making the end of the trip. Until next time!
