Budapest

Duration: 4 days

Budapest is one of the hubs of eastern Europe; a prime destination in the region. That means you get the best of everything, with fantastic international cuisine from hidden food markets, iconic sights to see, and an extensive and intriguing history to learn about. The magnificent Parliament building is something to behold, which you can see from Buda Castle across the river, giving you unrivalled sunset views over the whole city.

Once the sun goes down, Buda comes alive with candlelit restaurants along the Danube and vibrant bars filled with travellers from all over Europe, such as the awesome Szimpler Ruin bar. One of the cheapest capitals we visit, there really is some much you can do without having to worry about your wallet. Because of this, it’s one of our favourite destinations for a weekend break.

Itinerary

  • You’ll meet with your UniLife trip leaders at your chosen pick-up destination and head to the airport to catch your flight!
  • Once landed, proceed through passport control and hop on your airport transfers to the accommodation.
  • Our trip leaders will get you checked in and settled so you can make the most of your first evening in Budapest. We have plenty of recommendations from our many trips here, which we’ll share on the group chat so you can start getting to know the city!
  • We recommend starting off with a walk around Buda Castle and the Fisherman’s Bastion – a great place for group pictures or views over the city. There are great options dotted around for a quick sandwich or snack while you continue sightseeing.
  • The Pest side of the river (east) is the best for dinner choices. If the weather’s nice, there are a number of restaurants situated along the river’s edge for great sunset views.
  • Spend the evening checking out Budapest’s famous ruin bars, such as Szimpla Kert. Alternatively, if you book a boat party through us, party the night away while cruising along the Danube.
  • Explore the Great Market Hall and savour local flavours, including traditional Hungarian dishes.
  • We’d recommend taking some time to wander around the Jewish Quarter of the city and learning about the tragic history of the area that led it to become one of the busiest and most thriving districts in Europe. There are a number of free walking tours every day, which the hostel reception will be able to point you in the direction of.
  • We finish the day with our bar crawl, taking you round the best of Buda’s night life and ending in one of the city’s top nightclubs.
  • We’ll check out of the hostel and put your bags in luggage storage.
  • You’ll have a final chance to explore and see any sights you might have missed!
  • After meeting back at the hostel, you’ll board your transfers back the the airport and board your flight back the UK.
  • Once back, we’ll proceed through to the arrivals area, making the end of the trip. Until next time!
