Athens is the oldest capital in Europe and the perfect destination for students and history enthusiasts. There is something ancient around almost every corner with fantastic museums that showcase 3000 years of culture in one of the most eventful regions of the world. The Acropolis is a must see for any visitor and the Parthenon on top is an unmissable photo op that also gives stunning views of the surrounding city. 

If history doesn’t excite you, Athens still has plenty to offer. As a traditional bridge between East and West, Greece is a melting pot of cultures resulting in a unique mix different from anywhere else in Europe. The Fashion, cuisine and art of the country is on offer here, with delicious, cheap eats, various galleries and many other hidden gems dotted around the city, waiting to be discovered!

Itinerary

Please note, this is a sample itinerary. No activities are included unless specified in the ‘What’s Included’ section.

  • You’ll meet with your UniLife Trip Leaders at your chosen pick-up destination and head to the airport to catch your flight!
  • Once landed in Greece, proceed through passport control and hop on your airport transfers to the accommodation.
  • Our Trip Leaders will get you checked in and settled so you can make the most of your first evening in Athens. We have plenty of recommendations from our many trips here, which we’ll share on the group chat so you can start getting to know the city!

A day of free time to explore the city how you like! Here are some recommendations:

  • Visit the Acropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and explore the Parthenon and other ancient structures. Consider booking a guided tour for insights into the history.
  • Lunch at a local Greek taverna or restaurant.
  • Explore the Acropolis Museum, which houses a wealth of artifacts from the ancient site.

In the evening meet your Trip Leaders for an Bar Crawl visiting Athen’s hotspots!

Here are some things we recommend to do with your free time:

  • Take a day trip to the historic city of Delphi, known for its ancient oracle and archaeological site. Explore the Temple of Apollo and the ancient theatre.
  • Visit the National Archaeological Museum to see an extensive collection of Greek antiquities.
  • Wandering through the historic Plaka neighbourhood, known for its narrow streets and traditional Greek tavernas.
  • In the evening, our trip leaders will be happy to arrange an activity or Bar night for you – just ask!
  • We’ll check out of the hostel and put your bags in luggage storage.
  • You’ll have a final chance to explore and see any sights you might have missed!
  • After meeting back at the hostel, you’ll hop on your transfers back to the airport and board your flight back the UK.
  • Once back, we’ll proceed through to the arrivals area, making the end of the trip. Until next time!
