I've got an eVisa, not a BRP. Anything to do?

Checked against gov.uk on 7 October 2026

Before you go, log in to your UKVI account and check it shows your current passport and that your status is still valid when you come back. Get a share code. That's it.

Do this

  1. Link your current passport. Renewed since you got your visa? Add the new one in the UKVI account yourself, or the airline can refuse boarding home.
  2. Check the end date. Your student permission must be valid on the day you return. Between courses? Talk to your university visa team first.
  3. Get a share code and screenshot it. It lasts 90 days.

PassportThe only travel document you need at the UK border.
Old BRPNot a travel document any more. Fine to carry, nobody will ask for it.

Coming home

Use the eGates if your passport allows. Keep your boarding pass as the record of your return date. Otherwise the desk scans your passport and sees your eVisa. Carry your Home Office decision letter on your phone anyway.

Does the eVisa help in Europe?

No. It only concerns the UK. If your passport needs a Schengen visa, that’s separate.
