Why take science out of the classroom

Science trips exist to show students the subject is bigger than the specification. CERN is the obvious headline, but Iceland's geology and renewable energy, and the museums and institutions of Berlin, Paris and Brussels, all do the same job: making science feel like a live endeavour rather than settled fact.

For GCSE groups it is engagement and aspiration. For A-level physicists, chemists and biologists it is context for content they already know, and often the nudge towards studying it further.
